The Event Planner

May 13, 2006
My love for all things weddings & events
My passion for weddings and events sparked at age four when I was a flower girl at Roundhouse. I was in awe of the pretty decor, the wedding cake that was twice the size of little ol' me, and the joy of everybody around me. Who knew that eighteen years later I would be fulfilling that little girl's dream, coordinating a wedding at that very same venue?!
Full-time student by day, Event Planner by night...and weekend!
During the spring semester of my sophomore year of college, I interned as a Wedding Planner Assistant for The Event Planners in my hometown, Huntsville, AL, while balancing my role as a full-time student at Auburn University. After class each day, I would join planning calls with clients, and every weekend I would drive eight hours or more to assist with wedding coordination. Balancing these two jobs posed many challenges, but was very rewarding.
The Most Rewarding Wedding

I am most proud of the Jackson/Acree wedding at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens because it was the first wedding I coordinated on my own, and I successfully handled everthing with grace and composure, despite the many challenges I encountered. I was put in charge of this wedding at the last minute after the Lead Planner had a family emergency. An hour before the outdoor ceremony, an unexpected storm rolled in, leaving me to devise a new plan that fit the bride's vision. I teamed up with venue staff and vendors to quickly perform a partial flip of the reception in the grand ballroom into an indoor ceremony space while keeping the bride informed and reassured. Immediately after the ceremony, I moved guests to the lobby for an unplanned cocktail hour to buy some time to flip the ballroom back into the reception layout with the help of others. The day was a whirlwind of problem-solving, quick thinking, and multiple room flips, but I stayed calm under pressure and overcame every obstacle thrown at me. The rest of the evening went smoothly and everybody was happy!
The Most Extravagant Wedding
The Bence/McCrary reception at Roundhouse was the final wedding I interned at... and it was a big one! At this stunning six-figure wedding reception, I took on the responsibility of directing the bridal party and ensuring the evening ran smoothly for over two hundred twenty-six guests. During the first hour of the reception, guests struggled to use the polaroid camera for the wedding guest book, so I stepped in as a greeter/photographer to help with traffic flow at the entrance. I determined the right moment to distribute light sticks to guests to elevate the atmosphere and crowd's energy. Midway through the event, a bridesmaid experienced a reaction due to a peanut allergy, and I provided the necessary medical assistance, reinforcing my commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
